Beijing Gold Reaches St Andrew's

St Andrew’s students were celebrating with the large crowd gathered in the City on Monday 15 September 2008, when Australian’s Olympians returned from their successful run during the Beijing Olympics. It was a quite a significant moment, particularly when Malcolm Page, Gold medalist and Old Andrean of St Andrew’s, stepped away from the formalities to spend some time with the students and staff.

Malcolm Page, along with team mate Nathan Wilmot, sailed away with gold medals in the 470 men’s event at the regatta in Qingdao.

The students were overjoyed at the opportunity to meet a Gold medalist, but were even more excited after being told he was an Old Andrean of the School.

It was quite the reunion for Malcolm when Mr Greg Gower, who has been at the School since 1979, and Mr Jim Boddy, who has been at the School since 1982, joined the celebrations on the Square.

For a moment the students were Olympians themselves, taking the opportunity to be snapped wearing gold, silver and bronze medals.
